Let them eat cake

So my team were not so good at filling in their timesheets. I used to spend hours on Monday and Tuesday chasing them up and still missed a few each week. Rather than threatening them to get their timesheets in, I issued a challenge:

If all timesheets are in by 9am Monday 2 weeks in a row, I would bake them a cake.

Well, they met the challenge and this is the cake I baked for them...

Did you really bake this cake Porl? I am very impressed if you did this without a helping hand!! From a female in IT@AMP who has never baked a cake in her life.

This is exactly how you turn a culture around!!!

Reward is scientifically proven to be a better motivator than punishment, and I love the time theme - very creative!

Looking forward to a veritable gallery of cakes.

  • Having your cake and eating it too - So we are having another engagement survey. To encourage my team to complete the survey (not to influence their answer!), I offered them a cake for each day after we had 100% completion during the first week. If the survey did not have 100% completion until after the first week, I would bake a single cupcake that they could fight over. Well, they had all completed the survey by the second day, so I am up for 3 cakes. The first cake was a banana cake. The second cake was a carrot cake. The third cake was, theoretically, an engagement ring...
